ChironBooks is an independent publisher of books by authors already established in various genres who also write excellent fiction for young readers.

The ChironBooks project got started when authors Wim Coleman and Pat Perrin were preparing for a presentation of Wim’s plays at the winter lecture series of the San Miguel chapter of International PEN. They decided to put a book of plays together for the event. To see that book—called Plays on Ideas—and link to a video reading of one play, click here.

One book soon led to another. The newly-formed ChironBooks company snapped up U.S. rights to two bilingual books by International PEN vice-president Lucina Kathmann. Soon ChironBooks contracted a historical novel by R. Conrad Stein, whose many nonfiction publications appear in libraries and classrooms everywhere. Coleman and Perrin have continued their work for young readers with a multiple-award-winning historical novel, Anna's World, a new collection of classroom plays, and two fantasy series, Red Monocle and The Wand-Bearer.

And there's more to come …

In Greek mythology,
Chiron was a noble centaur, a healer and a tutor to heroes such as Ajax, Aeneas, Theseus, Achilles, Jason, Peleus, Telamon, Heracles, and others. He was respected for his intelligence and kindness. He gave up his immortality to save the life of Prometheus, who had given humans the gift of fire.
